Mission

Danbury Area Refugee Assistance (DARA)

is a nonprofit organization that resettles refugee families,

providing advocacy and support as they work toward self-sufficiency

to become productive members of our community.

What we do

Initially, DARA assists refugee families for 4 to 6 months while they establish themselves with jobs, enroll in school, and become familiar with life in America.

Who we are

Originally a collection of neighbors — strangers to one another before our first meeting — DARA has been an official nonprofit organization since 2016.

DARA'S STATEMENT ON COVID-19

The health and safety of DARA's volunteers, clients, and community is our highest priority. DARA follows CDC guidelines regarding pandemic protocols and requires all volunteers who interact with our refugee family clients to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Any volunteer who feels ill for any reason should immediately notify their team leader and avoid in-person volunteer duties until cleared to return.

DARA is committed to providing an environment that is safe, friendly, nondiscriminatory, and inclusive.

DARA welcomes and values everyone regardless of race, color, culture, religion, ability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or economic resources.
